PASTOR RYAN SCOTT CARRELL
It makes me so sad to see the reactions people have had to the shooting in our community yesterday evening. Let me catch you up, and then I’ll explain my thoughts.
Three men attempted to burglarize a home for the second time in one day. Unbeknownst to them, the homeowner had a friend stationed at the home waiting to confront them if they came back. According to police, a confrontation did occur and this individual shot and killed one of the three.
As a result, I’m seeing postings like “good guy with a gun won” and “the bad guy got what he deserved”. Are we seriously this callous about death?
To be clear, nobody won. A man is dead and another man killed a living human being. He’s got to live with that the rest of his life. One has no life. The other has to live with the fact he took a life for the rest of his life. For what? According to reports, not to protect himself. Not to protect his family. To protect stuff. A life for stuff. I just don’t get it.
There is still an investigation. I’m sure more information will be made public. But the initial reaction to reports is just disturbing. We should mourn all life that is lost and pray for the tragedy that took place for everyone involved.
Many Christians define themselves as pro-life. If that’s you, consider if that position extends to all lives. And if not, ask yourself, “Why not?”
